Whitmore Park has always been a community that shares and cares for it’s neighborhood as whole. As a community association, WPCA continues to develop more community building efforts. We have recently established the beginning of a network of Little Free Libraries in Whitmore Park. In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a wooden box of books where anyone may pick up a book or two, or bring a book to share. These literal free-sharing book boxes in our neighborhood are of various designs mounted on posts and “stewarded” by volunteers who host them on their front properties. There are over 30,000 Little Free Library book exchanges around the world.
Little Free Libraries can be summed up as noted on the Little Free Library website:
“ To promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations.” (quote from Little Free Library website: www.littlefreelibrary.org )
The Whitmore Park Community Association along with the support of our Whitmore Park residents, has established six Little Free Library locations at the following addresses:
63 Dolphin Bay
1812 Dufferin Road
33 Wesley Road
503 Shannon Road
124 Champlain Drive
